Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy (UGS)

Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy (UGS)

This means treatment of large or medium sized varicose veins, which are not usually detected by vision, while under the guidance of a Doppler ultrasound. Upon contact with the vessel lining, the material used initiates a reaction within the blood vessel wall which ultimately leads to its damage and closure. The solution used is usually injected within the vein after being agitated into foam in order to improve its performance for a certain concentration. That is why this procedure is also sometimes known as Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy (UGFS)
